Sterile Processing Technician Training Program

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) Training Program is a program that consists of 120 hours of training. The program will help students in the best practices for their profession. The course is designed to prepare qualified individuals to become safe and competent SPT in a variety of healthcare facilities. The curriculum prepares them to take the program competency evaluation for the International Certification. Upon completion of the training program, students will be able to learn carefully how to decontaminate, inspect, assemble and sterilize instruments and surgical trays, learn how to manage inventory control, order supplies, inspect, maintain, deliver and retrieve equipment and instruments for the surgery suites, emergency rooms and intensive care units. The curriculum prepares them to take the program competency evaluation for the board examination.

Upon successfully completion of the course, the students will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion, afterwhich, the students will be able to sit and take the board examination to be administered by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD).

After successful passing of the National Board Certification exam, students are eligible to apply for the externship program or clinical component consisting of at least 400 hours of voluntary training at one of our contracted healthcare facility. Students will be placed on a waiting list and must complete with all medical records required by the facility, including but not limited to background check & drug screening test.

Niles College will charge a nominal fee for students willing to undertake their externship program under the school's policy & procedure. The said fee will cover for the supervision & professional liability insurance coverage. However, students can always apply on their own Externship Program to any hospital or healthcare facilities of their choice.
